Inadequate!

January 23, 2007

A sense of inadequacy hits us all at one time or another; feelings of ‘i can’t do this!’ can whell up.  When we were born there was no manual on how to interact with others, on how to be a parent or a friend.

We might feel inadequate because we don’t have a job, because we’re not the best brother, sister, spouse or friend we can be, because we’re not as capable as others we know in a particular area.

God doesn’t give us more than we can handle.  He doesn’t love those we might aspire to be like any more than us.  God loves each of us the same, not based on our achievements or our failings rating.

Peace be yours because God loves you as you are, and smiles over you.  Peace!

What a comfort to know His unconditional love when our heart is towards Him! Even we we falter..
We are so blessed to be so loved!

And in fact we have no way of knowing the state of another’s relationship with him.

I feel inadequate for the tasks at hand almost daily. The old song “I need thee every hour” is ever so true for each of us.

You are right, Maria – He loves us for who we are – with all our shortcomings…
Blessings on your day and always.

How true and timely for me Maria. Just last night I felt inadequate. I want to do so much and be as great as He wants me to be yet still struggle with this…

    Abundant peace to you…

  8. I think all of us struggle with this from time to time. We can look at a large task we have and feel overwhelmed to accomplish it, or worse, we start comparing ourselves to others that seem to excel in the areas in which we feel weak. We can read in the book of Exodus and see how Moses struggled with this very thing. We need to remind ourselves that if God has called us to do a particular task or fulfill a role, that He will give us what we need to complete it, if we continually look to Him.

As my brother Bob once said in a poem he wrote,

When I look at the talents of others
myself of God’s blessings, I rob.
I know there are others more capable,
but I am called to the job.

    God’s best to you today!

When you do not live up to your full potential you rob yourself of JOY. Thank you for a great post.

  10. my freedom to be who He has called me to be arrived when I realized that outside of Him I really am inadequate…as a result I must trust Him for every move that I make…it has been most liberating

  11. Hi Maria,

You say, “God loves each of us the same.”

The question then becomes: Does God really love those who curse and reject Christ as much as He loves those who trust and believe in Christ as Savior?

That is a deep discussion question.

I have had a day of ‘can’t do this’ so badly today…I’m trying hard to trust that, in His strength, I can…

  14. May God’s richest blessings attend your every need. And, yes, it really is sweet to trust in Jesus!

As St. Teresa of Avila said, it’s not the greatness of what we do that counts, but the love with which we do it. That always keeps me going when I’m feeling inadequate and overwhelmed.

“God loves each of us the same, not based on our achievements or our failings rating.” Yes, and not by any works that we have done.

  21. I believe God loves each of us in a personal, special, unique way. His love for me is different from his love for anyone else, because I am different from anyone else, and this is the case for each and every soul created by Him through all time. It’s mind-boggling!
